This is sad, and I hope that we are on a trajectory (albeit just barely) to a point where this sort of prejudice will disappear. Articles like this one bring light to these injustices.

For the record, I think your name is perfect for a writer...there is a poetic quality to it and it is different enough to be easily recognized and remembered.
